Main material: Seagrass. Our carpets are made from plant fibres and retain a natural scent and feel. The material commonly called “seagrass” by basket weavers is not an underwater plant but a palm-like coastal species found on sandy tropical beaches in Asia. Leaves are separated, cut into strips, dried and handwoven.
Other material: Raffia.
Production and ethics
This rug is handmade in Java, Indonesia. We select local producers who provide fair pay and good working conditions. All manufacturing steps are carried out by adult, experienced artisans without harmful chemicals, and manual production keeps greenhouse gas emissions to a minimum. We maintain these standards through regular on-site visits and continuous personal contact with our partner workshops.
